We’re calling on the Australian Parliament to legislate a Digital Duty of Care that requires tech companies to use AI-driven, on-device safety technology to prevent livestreamed child sexual abuse before it starts.

The tools to stop this abuse exist. What’s missing is strong legislation, and a commitment from tech companies to make their smart devices safe by design.

Specifically:

  • Make video calls safer for kids. Require protections that prevent and disrupt livestreamed child abuse in private, real-time video calls, not just on public social media.
  • Make safety built in. Require safeguards on devices and operating systems so protection works across apps.
  • Protect privacy and encryption. Enable real-time protection without breaking end-to-end encryption or reading private messages in the cloud.
